| Book reveiw Jones versifies Pseudo-Dionysius' prose, and opts to render it in a latter-day Heideggerian jargon, for instance "imagine nothing to be beyond-beingly beyond beings." while in some cases it captures the complexity of Dionysius's unique use of superlatives in the original Greek, in other cases the translation is distracting. It is suggested that this be read in conjunction with another translation. (See for instance the amended translation by C.E. Rolt published by St Anthony's Greek Orthodox monastery which is much more readable. |
